Singapore- Asia for beginners
When someone is coming to Southeast Asia for the first time, a stay in Singapore is highly recommended. The city-nation offers a cleaner, safer and much less chaotic picture, than – let’s say – Bangkok. Firstly, taxi drivers at the airport don’t even try to rip you off and "heavy traffic" in Singapore means "6 cars at a red light“!
Singapore, was and is, foremost a shopping- paradise for luxury articles and the latest in entertainment- electronics, such as mobile-phones or Hifi systems. The best time to go on a shopping spree is the Great Singapore Sale (May- July).
But Singapore has more to offer than just hi-end shopping palaces.
Visitors may spend an evening at the famous nightsafari of the Singapore Zoo, take a trip to Sentosa Island or see one of major tourist attractions like the theme park of Universal Studios. For a little more in culture, follow the footsteps of Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles on a guided tour.
Must go areas in Singapore are Orchard Road, a shoppers haven, Little India or China Town and the entertainment district along Clarke’s Quay, with bars and restaurants for almost every taste.
